Why Klunk exists

Buying a used car is high-stakes. The data you need to make a smart call already exists. NHTSA collects hundreds of thousands of owner complaints and recalls every year. But it lives behind a government UI that no shopper wants to read.

Meanwhile the easy-to-use sites are either ad-saturated, paywalled, or built for enthusiasts comparing 0-60 times instead of failure modes.

Klunk is the site we wanted when researching our own next car: a fast verdict, a single readable score, the actual complaints behind it, the best year of any model to target, and side-by-side comparisons. No signup, no paywall, no ads.

Who builds it

Klunk is operated by PrimeStack Solutions LLC, an independent software company based in the United States. We run the entire stack ourselves: the Go backend that ingests NHTSA data, the page templates, the Klunk Score, and the deploy.

No team of dozens, no investors, no manufacturer relationships, no AI-generated filler.

How Klunk stays independent

Klunk pays for itself through affiliate commissions on parts (Amazon Associates) and, where appropriate, vehicle warranty and shopping referrals. Every affiliate link is tagged "Sponsored" on the page where it appears.

Affiliate partners cannot influence a Klunk Score, hide a complaint, or alter a ranking. The data and the score live entirely separate from the monetization.

What Klunk is not

• Not affiliated with NHTSA, any vehicle manufacturer, any dealer, or any aftermarket brand.
• Not a replacement for a pre-purchase mechanical inspection on a specific vehicle.
• Not a VIN history report. We tell you about the model year, Carfax tells you about the specific car.
• Not AI-generated content. The Klunk Score is a deterministic function of NHTSA complaint counts. The text on each page is templated, not LLM-written.
