Starter wiring burned and caused a small, localized fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Replacement of the starter assembly along with related engine wiring harness is necessary for vehicle operation. After mechanic review, it was determined the vehicle will catch fire upon attempt to start the vehicle. The vehicle was parked near our home when the internal burning and subsequent small fire started. The problem was reported to our nearest Hyundai dealership and the car was evaluated by the dealership to confirm the above. The car was inspected by Progressive insurance as well at the dealership and it was determined it was not included in TSB 24-01-057H recall for this VIN for the 2015 Hyundai Genesis. For this specific issue, there was zero indication this was a possibility.
UNKNOWN, The car lose electricity, shutting down by itself, when I press start engine, or when I shut down engine, recently car shuts off while I drive it on highway, it didn't start until I jump start it, also it shows lights of ABS, and brakes auto hold, cruise control not working.
I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. I had an over heating issue with the car in January of 2025. Took the car to an authorized dealership, and had the repair made.a month later a code appeared on my Dash it read “PSB “. I went to have my vehicles emission’s test and the car failed. I took the car to an authorized Hyundai dealer and they said its most likely the fuel pump module, but wouldn’t know til they examined it thoroughly. After they replaced the fuel pump p module they called me and said that the seat belt positioned went bad and it was explosive. That it’s a safety feature on this model and it was caused by the fuel pump module. If the dealt belt is a safety feature and it becomes defective, shouldn’t it be under warranty? You can’t drive in my state I belted, and if the seat belt positioner is explosive isn’t that a hazard? I think the seat belt , any part of the seat belt should be a warranty item for the life of the car, especially if it’s for safety. I am now being told that there is a $1500 cost in order to fix this item.
I took my car in to Tomball Hyundai due to intermittent failure of the headlight switch and the wiper switch when both of these features are set to the ‘Auto’ setting. These are very intermittent issues, but as luck would have it, it was sprinkling on my drive to the dealership on [XXX] and I was able to capture the wiper issue via video on my phone which I shared with the service advisor. Then, fortunately, 2 days later, the service technician was able to verify the intermittent headlight failure. I was aware of a TSB (TXXH) which is meant to address this problem, however, Hyundai issued a superseded TSB a few months after the original, in which they deleted the wiper switch from the service. The 2015 Genesis multifunction switch is sold as a single integrated unit (P/N 93400-3M031), but Hyundai’s TSB 20-BE-009H-1 mandates a "hack" repair that leaves the failing wiper switch in place. It is my assertion that when Hyundai settled a class action lawsuit regarding this switch, they agreed to extend the warranty on the entirety of the Multifunction Switch Assembly (NOT just the Headlight portion of the switch) for 15 years and Unlimited mileage. The Hyundai National Customer Service Case Manager (Roobika, 714-912-2118 National Consumer Affairs) told me that my request of having the complete switch replaced was denied due to the vehicle being out of warranty and having 73,481 miles. *to be clear here - Hyundai HAS agreed to replace the Headlight switch only - their denial centers on the Wiper switch. Eager to find a solution, I suggested that I could cost-share. This was declined as well. I was only given the option of buying the whole switch myself and allowing them to provide the labor to install it. Furthermore, It is technically illogical to perform a warranty repair by disassembling an integrated unit to replace one half while ignoring the failure of the other half—especially when the labor required to access the part is identical. Sunroof exploded outwards towards traffic while driving on highway. It caused a loud shot gun sound which cause occupations of our vehicle to panick none the less vehicles behind us got the shattered glass. No warning signs to even look for nor hear. Have called auto places all around us to no avail on getting it fixed. Isn't worth the insurance hike if we cannot even find someone to fix the problem. After research it seems this is a well known problem with a panoramic sunroof. Outside of warranty so we don't know what else to do.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light or while the vehicle was in drive, the vehicle failed to move, and the engine shut off unexpectedly. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. To restart the vehicle, the driver had to shift the gear selector into park and then press the start button. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure or determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
While driving approximately 35–40 mph, the steering wheel locked unexpectedly. My [XXX] child was in the vehicle at the time. I was nearly unable to control the vehicle, creating a serious risk of a crash or fatal injury. The vehicle has a long history of electrical problems including repeated battery failures and a prior transmission replacement. Due to the steering failure, the vehicle is unsafe to operate and has not been driven since the incident. No warning lights were observed prior to the steering failure. The vehicle exhibits a severe vibration and shaking at normal highway speeds, most notably around 70–80 mph. The condition is repeatable and occurs during steady freeway driving. The vibration is strong enough that the vehicle feels unstable and unsafe to operate at typical highway speeds. This condition significantly affects safe freeway operation. Due to the severity of the shaking, I no longer feel comfortable or safe driving the vehicle at or above normal traffic speeds, which increases risk when merging, maintaining speed with traffic, or responding to road conditions. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by authorized dealerships. Multiple inspections and repair attempts have been performed over several months for the same vibration concern. Major drivetrain components, including the rear differential and driveshaft, were replaced, but the vibration remains unresolved. The servicing dealer has stated they do not have a further diagnostic path and are unable to continue addressing the issue. The issue has been ongoing since approximately November 2024 and has not been resolved despite repeated service visits. No warning lights or messages are present. The vibration is speed-dependent rather than engine-speed-dependent. The vehicle remains available for inspection upon request.
My car has previously been reported for having issues with electrical problems that I have had to fight the manufacturer to get repaired unsuccessfully.I am constantly experiencing and smelling burning in my dash when I crank the car. Car is no longer under warranty, so therefore, I cannot afford to continue to go in and report the same problem over and over again. My turn signal bulbs are constantly blowing, and I'm having to replace them at a rate that is not normal.I'm sure this is all related.
I sent a letter to the Hyundai Motor America LEGAL DEPARTMENT on 2 Jan 25. I see this as a major concern and safety problem for my grand kids, my family and myself. My car is a 2015 Hyundai Genesis VIN#: [XXX] four door sedan. The back left side passenger door coupler and handle have broken off the car between April and August 2025. I’ve called and spoken with the Hyundai dealership in Colonial Heights, VA about fixing the back coupler and handle. The Hyundai dealership informed me that all they needed to do is to order a new back door coupler and have it painted. After that, then they will call me once they’ve received the back door coupler and have it painted. Once everything is done, they will give me a call to schedule an appointment to have the back door coupler and handle to be put back on the left side passenger car door. I’ve scheduled the appointment to have the back door coupler and handle to be put back on the car. Everything was completed. Now, the back right side passenger door coupler and handle have broken off in December 2025. I’ve called and spoken with the Hyundai dealership in Colonial Heights, VA about fixing the right side back door coupler and handle. I’ve went through the same process above in getting the right side back door coupler and handle to be put back on. The Hyundai dealership informed me that all they needed to do is to order a new back coupler and have it painted. After that, then they will call me once they’ve received the back coupler and have it painted. Once everything is done, they will give me a call to schedule an appointment to have the back coupler and handle to be put back on the right-side of the passenger door. I informed them that I will be scared if I’m in an accident, and I can’t get my grand kids or family out of the car because of the couplers and handles are broken off and the safety lock is on. I asked if there was a recall on the car for the door couplers or if there was a permanent fix or not? NO! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
So there are TWO main points of concern on this vehicle, number 1 being the steering racks. Many other people have had the same issue as myself. Steering rack completely shut down about a year ago on the freeway, rendering my steering completely useless which was extremely dangerous. 8K repair bill that Hyundai will not acknowledge. Now that comes to my 2ND point, the oil pressure sensor switch. It’s more common than the steering racks. Many owners are reporting it as low at 40-50K miles, yet there’s an open recall in Korea for this exact problem. But the USA does not get any acknowledgment for it??? Yet another costly repair due to defective engineering. Might I add as well, the transmissions Prior to 2018 no matter if you’ve had them replaced, they end up failing and people get absolutely 0 help with them. It’s ridiculous and these issue can eventually cost someone their life some day.
Vehicle: 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan (3.8L) Issue Type: Exterior Lighting / Electrical System Description of the Problem: I am reporting an intermittent electrical failure affecting the rear lighting and backup safety systems on my 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The vehicle’s reverse lights, tail lights, and backup camera intermittently fail and flicker, especially when the trunk is opened or moved. This behavior has worsened over time. The failure appears to be related to wiring in the trunk area, as opening or closing the trunk causes the lights and camera to flicker or stop functioning. This issue affects multiple systems simultaneously, including: •Reverse (backup) lights •Tail lights •Backup camera License plate lighting The reverse lights and backup camera sometimes do not function at night, and the tail lights may flicker or go out. Safety Incident / Near Miss: At night, while backing up, I nearly struck a pedestrian because: •I could not clearly see behind the vehicle due to the backup camera and reverse lights not functioning, and •The pedestrian did not realize the vehicle was backing up because the reverse lights were not illuminated. No injury occurred, but this was a serious near-miss involving a pedestrian at night. Additional Information: I have since learned that Hyundai has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) for 2015–2016 Genesis vehicles related to damage or failure of the trunk wiring harness, which can cause loss of rear lighting and backup camera function. My vehicle’s symptoms match the conditions described in the bulletin. This issue appears to be a design-related wiring failure caused by normal trunk operation, not misuse or modification. Current Status: The problem is ongoing and worsening. Rear lighting and backup safety systems are unreliable and fail intermittently without warning.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, the oil warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle started to sputter and then stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a defective oil pressure sensor, and the contact was informed that the oil pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to a local dealer for another diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.
The paint on my hood & fenders is falling off rapidly causing a not so good look for the Genesis brand.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while stopped at a red light, the vehicle started shaking with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle accelerated but failed to exceed 20 MPH. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and shifted into park(P). The vehicle was restarted, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a handheld diagnostic machine retrieved DTC: P2106, P0638, and P2110. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the throttle body and the foot control throttle needed to be replaced. The contact was also advised by the mechanic that there may be an electrical system issue with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired, but the codes were reset. The contact took the vehicle to the residence and replaced the throttle body and the foot control throttle, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 94,600.
My 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 AWD has steering issue. The steering wheel "sticks," not returning to the center on its own when steer more than 20 degrees either to the left or right. For example, on a winding road or on a corner, I would turn or rotate the steering wheel either to the left and right, and the wheel will stay that way rather than returning to the center once the road become straight. I have to yank the wheel back to the center in order to keep the car on the road. On a highway, I have to make constant correction to keep the car center or hold the wheel firm in order to keep the wheel, therefore, the car stady and and safe. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I had an extend warranty until April 2025, and such brought the issues to 2 different dealers but they did not help. Each dealer attributes the steering issue to 2 separate problems. One dealer pointed to the rotors (which is relatively news) and the other to a suspension. I know about car. I changed the rotors myself and the suspension. A friend no is a master mechanic himsefl inspect the car for this year's annual safety inspection, and he found no issues withe neight the rotors or suspension after I made the replacments. THE STEERING ISSUE PERSISTS. If you would search the web( suchas Genesis Forum and others) other people have exactly same issues, so much so, Hyundai has issue a technical bulletin to deal with the steering issue under the question, e.g., replace entire steering column. Hyundai should replace all vehicle wiht the issue because this is clearly safety issue to me and any body who are on the road, for god forbids, I could lose control of my car and mawn them over! NHTSA has to at least lauch an investigation. The issue is not mine alone, other GENESIS G80 owners are driving unsafe car as of now! THANK YOU.
Starter started smoking
After Hyundai performed a recall service on my vehicle, the radiator hose burst while I was driving on the highway, causing the engine to fail completely. Smoke came from the engine compartment, and I had to pull over immediately with my family to avoid a serious accident. Before the recall, the vehicle had no issues and ran perfectly for three months after purchase. The problem occurred only a few days after the recall service, which included work on the ABS module. Hyundai refused to take responsibility, even though this failure happened right after the recall repair. The dealership and manufacturer did not inspect the vehicle properly and made their decision based only on a phone conversation. This is a severe safety concern because the engine failed suddenly on the highway. I believe this failure is directly related to the recall work performed under NHTSA Recall #21V160000, which is still listed as incomplete on NHTSA records.
