The Problem: The backup camera on my 2020 Nissan 370z (purchased in 2022) has been malfunctioning, intermittently, since I got the car but has gotten worse over time and rarely works now. When I put the car in Reverse the camera shows a blue screen and/or a black screen and then nothing. My car model doesn’t have an Infotainment screen. The backup camera displays in the rearview mirror only. It is available for inspection upon request. Safety: Without a backup camera it is difficult/impossible to see kids and adults walking behind my car when I back out of a parking space. I’m backing up partially blind and that’s scary. This problem was reproduced by a dealership in Sep. of 2022 and a new camera was installed and I was told it was fixed. But it started again 2 months later and continues. (NOTE: I didn’t return to that dealer because of a different botched repair they did.) I have had the same issue inspected by 2 other dealers (one as recent as Oct. 1, 2026) When I took the car in 2 weeks ago for some general maintenance, I told them about the camera and asked them to check it out. He told me that IF I need a new camera, it was going to cost me $2,000 (+ the labor). After checking it he said it was working properly, apparently not hearing the “intermittent” part. The component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance rep to my knowledge. There is no warning lamp, message or symptoms before the camera fails. My Best Assessment: My camera problem sounds exactly like the one in the model cars Nissan has been recalling for years. It’s not the camera, it has to be the wiring harness or software. Since my car hasn’t been included in the recalls, they won’t fix it (unless I pay for it). I am not the only 370z owner with this issue according to various 370z forums. This backup camera issue “Directly violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, Rear Visibility”. I think 2020 model 370z cars should be added to the recall. ~Thank you.
