The contact's mother owns a 1989 N/A Pontiac Firebird. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 90V105000 (Seat Belts) during a State Inspection; however, the part to do the recall repair was not available. The local dealer and several other dealers were contacted and informed the contact that the recall part had been discontinued. The contact had not experienced the failure stated in the recall. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Additionally, the contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt failed to retract as needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,627.
WHILE ON VACATION, THE RIGHT REAR (GOODYEAR DUNLOP G/T QUALIFIER P235/55R 16 96T) TIRE ON MY 2000 PONTIAC FIREBIRD COUPE LOST ITS TREAD AND BLEW NEARLY KILLING MYSELF AND MY FIANCEE'. THIS HAPPENED NEAR BEAVER, UTAH ON I-70. I ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY 10000 MILES ON THE TIRES. THEY WERE WARRANTED FOR 70000 MILES. THE AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE REST OF MY TIRES WERE DANGEROUS. THE TIRES WERE CRACKING ALONG THE EDGE OF THE TREAD AND ACROSS THE TREAD. HE STATED THE OTHER TIRES WOULD END UP LOOSING THEIR TREAD TOO. ALSO, HE INFORMED ME THAT THE TIRES WERE CONSIDERABLY OLDER THAN WHAT I THOUGHT. HE SHOWED ME BY THE DATES STAMPED ON THE TIRES. DISCOUNT TIRE TOLD ME THE TIRES WERE NEW WHEN I BOUGHT THEM. I HAD TO BUY 4 NEW TIRES AT A COST OF $603.88 IN BEAVER, UTAH.. OUR LIVES WERE WORTH MORE THAN THE COST OF TIRES. UPON MY RETURN TO SPRINGFIELD, I PROCEEDED TO DISCOUNT TIRE TO TALK TO THE MANAGER. I TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED AND SHOWED HIM THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO FORWARD THE COMPLAINT TO GOODYEAR BECAUSE IT WAS THE TIRE COMPANY, NOT THEIR FAULT. I DISAGREED SINCE THEY SOLD ME OLD TIRES, BUT HE SAID THAT IS HOW THEY HANDLE CLAIMS. I RECEIVED A CLAIM FORM FROM GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY. I FILLED IT OUT, GOT TWO ESTIMATES OF $1125.65 AND $1485.97 FOR REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE, AND SENT IT BACK TO THEM ON AUGUST 10TH, 2015 FOR PROCESSING. I CALLED TODAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND, 2015 TO FIND OUT THE PROGRESS OF MY CLAIM. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULDN'T DO ANY THING FOR ME SINCE THE STATION IN BEAVER NO LONGER HAD THE DEFECTIVE TIRES AND THEY NEEDED THEM TO ASSES THE TIRE FAILURE. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT THE TIRES BACK WITH ME. TELL ME HOW I WAS TO BRING 4 TIRES ALONG WITH MY LUGGAGE BACK IN A FIREBIRD.
I HAD TO REPLACE THE WINDOW MOTOR ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE WINDOW MOTOR AND REGULATOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. EVERYONE I HAVE ENCOUNTERED WITH MY GENERATION FIREBIRD HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE DAY THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT IT WAS 100 DEGREES AND LATER RAINING, THUS THE WINDOW WAS DOWN AND NOT PROTECTING THE OCCUPANTS FROM THE ELEMENTS OF THE WEATHER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC FIREBIRD. THE VEHICLE HAS KUMHO TIRES, SIZE P23555R16 (NA). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD BOUNCE. HE NOTICED THAT THE TWO SETS OF FOUR TIRES HE RECEIVED WERE BOTH DEFECTIVE. THE TIRES ALSO CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE. THE TIRE COMPANY REPLACED THE FIRST FOUR TIRES AND, AFTER ANOTHER FAILURE, REPLACED THEM WITH ANOTHER SET OF FOUR KUMHO TIRES. THE REPLACEMENT TIRES ALSO FAILED. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO TAKE THE TIRE BRAND AND INSISTED ON ANOTHER TIRE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE VIN OR DOT NUMBER AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 27,000.

HE MANAGED TO PULL OVER AND EXIT THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT BURST INTO FLAMES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS PRESENT AND NO PREVIOUS FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR THIRTY MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRE BEGAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALER. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 77,284.
I PURCHASED A PONTIAC MONTANA IN 2004 IT WAS BUILT IN 2000 .ON MARCH 12,2007 IT BUSTED INTO FLAMES BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND FUSE BOX . WHILE MY WIFE AND CHILD WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. *AK
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE, AND I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP AT LEAST TWICE (MAYBE THREE) TIMES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM WITH THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. NOW, THE PROBLEM HAS ARISEN AGAIN, AND I MUST TAKE MY TIME AND MONEY TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE JUST SEEN ON LINE TWELVE (12) "TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS" REPORTING THIS PROBLEM DATING 1999 THROUGH 2006. I BELIEVE THAT THIS STEERING SHAFT PROBLEM IS LIFE THREATENING. PURCHASED NEW 2000 PONTIAC SUNFIRE IN 2000. IN 2001 HAD TO HAVE THE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED AT WARRANTY. HAVE COMPLAINED OVER THE NEXT 3 YEARS THAT STEERING STILL MAKES CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING. TODAY TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THE STEERING SHAFT AGAIN HAS TO BE REPLACED. I'M A 63 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND DO NOT RACE OR ABUSE MY CAR. NOW I WAS ALSO TOLD THE HUB ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME...COSTS APPROX 900.00. WHY WOULD THESE CONTINUE TO BREAK? *NM
I HAVE A 2000 PONTIAC FIREBIRD. AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH I HAVE TO CHANGE EITHER A PARKING LIGHT OR A FOG LIGHT BECAUSE IT HAS BURNT OUT. ONE OF MY FOG LIGHTS IS COMPLETELY RUINED AND I HAVE TO PURCHASE A WHOLE NEW PIECE, BECAUSE IT WAS MELTED. LOW COOLANT LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES. I HAVE HAD THE COOLANT SYSTEM FLUSHED ON 2-26-05 AND SENSORS CLEANED, AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE CENTER THAT THE DEXCOOL POSES A PROBLEM IN THE GM CARS. THEY SAID THAT IT MAKES THE SENSORS STICK AND RESULT IN THE LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO REASON. JUST THIS WEEK THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT IS BACK ON. GM WILL NOT RECALL THIS, AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE DEXCOOL MAY LEAK INTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ENGINE BLOWING UP. *AK
I AM WRITING BECAUSE MY PONTIAC MONTANA MINIVAN HAS A HOOD THAT IS RUSTING IN MANY PLACES, ON TOP OF THE HOOD AND UNDER THE HOOD. THIS OCCURRED BEFORE 48,000 MILES, THIS IS WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VAN AND THE PROBLEM WAS APPARENT. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I QUESTION THE SAFETY OF THE HOOD IF WE WERE TO BE IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. I TOOK THE VAN INTO THE PONTIAC DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES AND THEN THEY CONTACTED THE WARRANTY DEPARTMENT WHO LOOKED AT THE PICURES AND SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE RESPONSE AND THEREFORE CALLED THE CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE DEPARTARTMENT WHO INTURNED CALLED THE DEALER AND THEN REPEATED WHAT THE DEALER TOLD ME. I WAS GIVIEN THE RING AROUND AND AM ANNOYED THAT PONTIAC DID NOT FIND THIS PROBLEM TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE.*AK
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICKS INTERMITTENTLY IN SEVERE COLD WEATHER WHILE DRIVING. THIS CONDITION CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE WHEN APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HARDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE DEALER IS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *NM
RECENTLY MY LOW COOLANT LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON IN MY 2000 GRAND AM GT (3.4 LITER). I ADDED COOLANT TO THE TANK BECAUSE IT WAS LOW, BUT WAS CURIOUS AS TO WHY I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY PUDDLES FORMING UNDERNEATH MY CAR. ALL WAS FINE TILL A FEW WEEKS LATER MY LOW COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I LOOKED AT THE TANK AND IT WAS LOW AGAIN, BUT NO SIGNS OF WHERE THE COOLANT WAS GOING. SO, I WENT ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM. AS IT TURNS OUT, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS GO BAD AT FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE, RESULTING IN COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE OIL. SURE ENOUGH I TOOK OFF THE OIL CAP AND DISCOVERED A MILKY RESIDUE INSIDE WHERE THE OIL WAS. EVEN MY COOLANT TANK HAD SOME OF THIS IN IT. I HAD JUST CHANGED THE OIL A MONTH PRIOR AND SAW NO SIGNS OF IT, SO IT OBVIOUSLY JUST OCCURRED. I'M JUST SHOCKED THAT MY CAR HAS AROUND 50,000 MILES ON IT AND SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS HAPPENING TO WHERE IT COULD LITERALLY DESTROY MY ENGINE. I AM TAKING IT IN FOR REPAIRS IN A FEW DAYS BEFORE IT GETS WORSE, ESTIMATED AROUND $500. PRETTY MUCH THE GASKET IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED, ALONG WITH FLUSHING THE COOLANT SYSTEM AND CLEANING THE OIL.
