2014 Ram 1500

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. The contact stated that when the outside temperature dropped below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the power steering failed to engage upon starting the vehicle or while driving. The contact stated that the steering wheel became significantly difficult to turn. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was inspected, and the contact was advised that the VIN was not included in any open recalls. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

Power steering went out while driving around corner causing it to go off road.

Ram has a recall for this vehicle for the fuel tank strap attachment point on the frame. It is their x75 recall. The part on my truck is completely rotted out exactly why the recall was made. My truck is 8 months outside of the recall period so Ram will not replace the part. The frame has obviously been rotting for a long time and who knows how long the fuel tank has only been supported with one strap. This is a huge safety concern and one that Ram is refusing to repair because it is outside of the time line. I can provide photos of the rotted out area as well as strap that is rotting as well. A known issue like this should not have a time line and should be replaced at no cost. Original in service date for the vehicle was February 18, 2014

Steering wheel unable to turn. Steering wheel control system malfunctioning. Service was confirmed by WATAUGA AUTOMOTIVE LLC as defective. Warning light for steering was present on first knowledge of steering wheel not working properly.

Vehicle Information: 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab VIN: [XXX] Manufacturer: Stellantis N.V. / Chrysler Group LLC Selling/Servicing Dealer: First Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (280 E. Washington St, North Attleboro, MA 02760) Primary Component: Engine / Power Train Systems (Engine Block Corrosion / Oil Leak) Description of Safety Defect & Structural Failure: In December 2025, at approximately 59,000 miles, this vehicle experienced a sudden, severe engine oil leak. The cause was severe corrosion that created a hole through the lower engine block above the oil pan, located behind new transmission lines replaced by the dealership. First Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram acknowledged the severe corrosion and corroded engine block on record. The loss of engine oil created an immediate risk of engine failure, loss of vehicle power while driving, and a severe fire hazard from pressurized engine oil contacting hot exhaust components. The vehicle became completely inoperable and was flatbed towed to First Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Current Status & Official Record: The structural engine defect was never repaired. Subsequent third-party state inspection and state-certified used vehicle arbitration confirmed the unrepaired defect, resulting in a binding vehicle buyback decision issued in my favor on September 15, 2026. there are x2 photos of motor. my photo prior to towing to dealership and the dealerships approximately a month later. 2014 Ram 1500 5.7L, approximately 90,000 miles. Around October 2025, the ABS warning light, BRAKE warning light, and traction control light illuminated on the dash. Diagnosis shows ABS control module internal electronic failure (fault code C2200, lost communication with ABS module). This failure disables the anti-lock braking system, electronic stability/traction control, trailer brake controller, and cruise control. Failure was intermittent at first, occurring more often in warm weather, and has now become permanent. The vehicle cannot be repaired: replacement module Mopar part 68228991AD is discontinued and on national backorder, with dealers reporting the part has been under manufacturer engineering review for an extended period. Independent module rebuild services are unable to obtain required components. The vehicle is driven daily with these safety systems inoperative and no repair path available.

When driving down the road, the engine will completely shut off. Attempt to pull it over in a safe spot. The radio and four ways are still functional. Once we are stopped on the side of the road, the vehicle puts itself into park and am unable to restart the vehicle for 10 to 15 minutes. Upon restarting the vehicle, everything runs normal until it does it again. It can go weeks or even a couple hours. It has almost caused a crash several times due to randomly powering down the motor.

On or about September 10, 2026, I was driving on the interstate at 70 MPH. Suddenly, I lost control of the steering with no prior warning or warning lights. It was obvious the power steering was not working. The power steering warning light finally came on about 15 min later. Needless to say, my reaction time to potential road hazards was greatly diminished. If my wife was driving she would not have the strength to steer. This happened on I 30 and exit 117 in Benton Arkansas while driving 70 MPH. There is a recall on my make, model and year but apparently not for my specific vehicle. It cost me $3045.75 to get it repaired. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed.

The contact owns a 2014 Ram 1500. While driving approximately 40-50 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist, causing the steering wheel to be difficult to turn. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the rack and pinion was replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V021000 (Steering); however, the VIN and model were not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

While towing a 17ft trailer I had to slam on the brakes to avoid another vehicle. The trailer brakes and ABS on my truck did not work. I managed to avoid the other vehicle but the ABS, trailer and parking brake light all came on a couple minutes later. The lights went off but came back on a couple of days later. On XXX I took the truck to the Ram dealer in [XXX], where I originally bought it from and they diagnosed the brake module had gone out. Code C2200-49. On XXX I was informed that there is not part available to make the repair. This is an important safety component for towing a trailer and is required in [XXX]. I have had the ABS control module show an internal fault twice now in 3 years. The latest incident was while I was towing my travel trailer. When the unit sets a code, it disables the trailer brakes, along with the anti-lock brakes. This could be really bad in on a hill or sudden need to stop. The first occurrence was in 2023. I was unable to find a replacement, so i found a company to repair the unit. After the current incident, I have started looking for a new unit. They are still not readily available. How can this not be a major safety problem? Manufacturers are required to provide ABS systems in cars, but not the parts to fix the systems? This seems to be a very common problem with the 2013-2018 Ram 1500 trucks. The problem part shows C2200, ABS module internal; internal electronic fault.

The front fuel tank strap mounting bracket broke. There is a recall (U-04/NHTSA 18V-160) for model years 2009-2012 for this issue. It also was added to models thru 2018 as TSB/Ext. Warranty #14-002-18 Rev. A., which expired on my vehicle in March 2026. This means that the expense will be out of my pocket. What I don't understand is, it is a known safety issue on 2009-2018 Ram 1500 trucks, but only a recall for model years 2009-12. And since the recall doesn't presently cover my model year (2014), there was no notification of this issue sent to me. I believe that since it is a known issue included in a recall/TSB of model years through 2018, the recall should be extended to cover all model years. This failure could put myself and others at risk because there is only one bracket holding my fuel tank on, which could cause loss of control of vehicle or a fire to the vehicle if the remaining bracket breaks. This issue was discovered by a private auto repair shop, in which there were no warnings signals from the vehicle.

Electronic power steering rack and pinion failed and made the steering wheel very difficult to turn. This caused the truck to turn wide into a parking lot and almost strike another vehicle. This issue is a known problem for other RAM models, but does not officially apply to mine. Now, the truck will start fine, as soon as you turn the steering wheel, an alert comes up on the dash and the steering wheel is difficult to turn.

ABS Module has stopped working. The part has been on back-order with RAM for months. A failed ABS module compromises safety by disabling anti-lock braking and electronic stability control (ESC).

ABS, BRAKE & TRACTION CONTROL lights are illuminated while the engine is running. Diagnostics show code C2200-49 indicating ABS module failure. New module is unavailable & has reportedly been so for several years.

While driving the EPS went out displaying a warning message service power steering. I lost all control of power steering, had it scanned by a shop they stated I would have to replace to rack and pinion EPS unit. The issue is trying to find the part, not to meant it is going to cost between 3000-4000 for the part and then the labor cost to change out. When looking to find parts i came across a report saying there has be several issues with this same EPS issue and it could be covered under a defeat recall or law suit act.

This complaint is to report a power steering failure in my 2014 ram truck which has only 21,345 miles. The failure happened at the start up so there was no safety risk for me, but I understand from reading prior complaints that it can happen during driving. There was no warning or issue prior to the failure. I simply started the truck and the red warning light came on the dash and I had no power steering. I haven’t taken it to a mechanic as they charge 200 just to diagnose the issue and dealer informed me the eps steering rack is on back order. I read this issue has been known since 2023. Is that true? How many complaints are needed to get a recall for this issue? I’m almost reluctant to drive it again if/when it gets fixed.

Sudden, complete loss of electric power steering while backing out in a parking lot. I was driving our 2014 Ram 1500. It was approximately 9:00 pm and I was in a post office parking lot. I started the truck, put the car in reverse and backed out. The steering suddenly became impossible to turn and the ESP warning appeared on the dash. The truck had been driving fine and the failure occurred without warning. THE ESP warning light had never appeared prior to this incident. The truck could not be safely driven after the steering failure and required towing to a mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed a failure of the electric power steering system and the entire electric power steering rack and pinion had to be replaced. This was an unexpected and significant repair expense at a cost of $2,788.50 including $150 for the tow. Thankfully, the total failure of the ESP did not occur when I was driving at a high speed and thankfully it was late enough in the day that the parking lot was empty and no other vehicles were involved or disrupted. My safety and others would have been at risk because the steering wheel was completely locked and I was unable to turn it at all. The old rack and pinion has been kept if inspection is needed. It has not been inspected by anyone other than our mechanic. I am specifically filing this report because after my own searches, I discovered that this situation has happened numerous times and it could be a very serious catastrophic event if it is not investigated.
