I am reporting a recurring transmission/drivetrain problem that I believe may warrant investigation for a potential safety defect. Beginning in approximately May 2026, my vehicle developed a pronounced hard bump/jerk and shudder during transmission operation. The problem initially occurred primarily in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears and became more noticeable after the vehicle warmed up. The condition was significant enough that I took the vehicle to Genesis of Columbia/Silver’s Hyundai for diagnosis. On June 1, 2026, at approximately 90,223 miles, the dealer documented that they had “verified concern” and that the “transmission needs to be replaced due to internal failure.” The transmission replacement was initially declined by my vehicle service contract administrator, and only the torque converter was authorized. The dealer replaced the torque converter but documented that the condition was only more intermittent and that the vehicle “will still need transmission as originally diagnosed.” In August/September 2026, the transmission and torque converter were replaced but bump remained. The dealer then identified a bent front propeller shaft and replaced that as well. The vehicle continued to have drivetrain-related bump as before causing problems with acceleration. The dealer later raised a concern about different tire tread depths/patterns for first time after 8 weeks. The tires were the tires that came on the vehicle when I purchased it. The dealer told me that the tire condition “could cause a problem later.” I subsequently had the tires measured elsewhere, with tread depths of approximately 5/32” and 8/32” on two tires. I purchased 4 new tires and the problem got worse Of particular concern, a dealer employee also told me by text that they had “other G80 here with same problem that need transmissions.” I am not claiming that this statement establishes how many vehicles are affected only information that may warrant further investigation.
