The Infiniti QX 60 with the CVT Transmission has been a safety issue in the model year 2015- 2018. I was driving the vehicle on 3/18/2026 when the transmission stopped and cause my car to stop in traffic almost causing me to be in an accident. The car was tolled to the Infiniti dealership and I was later told that my vehicle was included in the CVT transmission settlement however it expired in August 2025 and said they will not repair I had to pay out of pocket.

The continuous variable transmission (CVT) in my 2017 Infiniti QX60 failed due to faulty components. They are failing to cover the repair and take accountability for the faulty equipment even though they have admitted to the part quality issue.

While driving, the vehicle displayed an engine malfunction warning followed by a low oil pressure warning. I pulled over and waited. The oil level was checked and was not empty. The warning lights briefly went out, but shortly afterward the engine lost power. When attempting to restart the vehicle, the engine began knocking. The vehicle became inoperable and required towing. This was a sudden engine failure with no prior indication of oil loss, leak, or neglect. This created a safety concern due to sudden loss of power while driving.

The car died suddenly while driving. The battery is only a few months old. Prior to dying a few warning lamps suddenly came on but there was no prior warning. The engine did not overheat, there was no smoke, or check engine light until the car suddenly died. I have been advised that I need a new engine. I have been researching and it appears many others have similar issues with their Infiniti engines. Its [XXX] Please look into this. It’s odd to me that so many folks engines have died at what is actually low mileage. It’s also pretty frustrating and depressing, the repairs can go up to the cost of a new vehicle, when this appears to be a design flaw. I’m starting to meet way to many folks whose Infiniti or Nissan suddenly needs a new trans or engine as soon as the warranty ends. Timing chain completely went when I had been complaining of a noise while it was under warranty. I was stranded on the side of the road. The starter completely went while driving. Now, I am told the transfer case is bad and I had to pull on side of road to a repair shop.

A mechanic says it is PCM failure. I have owned the car for 18 months. Shortly after buying it, it started doing this thing where it loses power for just a second or two. Cruise control and proximity sensors kick off, steering wheel locks and/or power steering turns off, all interior components turn off. Usually everything comes right back on, and I can reset the cruise control. Lately it has been more frequent, and things don't go back to normal. It sometimes causes the vehicle to stall and not start as well. Today even once things are back "on", I can't control the AC fan, radio volume, etc. Bluetooth shows connected to the car on my phone but isn't playing through the vehicle speakers. I don't undersrand how this could not be a recall when it poses a major safety risk to suddenly lose power and be unable to steer the vehicle! This has been happening since Feb 2024, so I'll just put the original date. Sometimes it happens 15 times in a day and the vehicle is more or less not drivable. Other times I'll go a month or so with no glitches.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I experienced with my Infiniti QX60, which I believe warrants immediate investigation and action. On 3/15/25, during a family trip for spring break, I was driving my 2017 Infiniti QX60 at approximately 75 mph on the highway when the sunroof suddenly exploded without warning. The sound was akin to gunfire, and the shock of the incident left my family and me deeply shaken. The explosion occurred without any prior impact or debris hitting the vehicle, and there were no adverse weather conditions that could have contributed to the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the situation could have been far worse had the glass shattered inward or caused a loss of vehicle control. This incident caused significant inconvenience and financial burden. I was 350 miles from home and had to divert to the nearest town to assess the damage and determine how to proceed. Since the incident occurred on a Saturday, no repairs could be made until the following Monday, leaving my family stranded and forcing us to incur additional expenses for lodging, meals, and alternate transportation to reach our destination, which was still 150 miles away. Upon researching this issue, I discovered numerous reports from other Infiniti QX60 owners who have experienced similar spontaneous sunroof explosions. Despite the apparent frequency of these incidents, there has been no indication of a recall or any corrective action from the manufacturer. This is deeply concerning, as it poses a significant safety risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road. I urge the NHTS to investigate this matter thoroughly and consider mandating a recall or other corrective measures to address this defect in Infiniti QX60 vehicles. Additionally, I hope that steps can be taken to ensure that current and future owners are protected from this potentially dangerous issue. Please let me know if there is any additional information needed.

About a year ago, I was driving about 80 mph and the dash lights and radio just died, then within seconds everything came back on. It only happened that one time. The other day, I was on a busy highway headed home when my battery light came on. I just replaced both the alternator and battery less than a year ago. I started inching over to the left land (just in case) when the car just died and I had to coast to a stop in the middle of the highway WITH MY 3 KIDS!!! The police came and I was able to start the car and pull it on the shoulder, then a tow truck came and dropped it off at Infiniti. They had my car for 2 days and couldn't find anything and they told me to come and pick it up. Within 30 minutes of me picking it up, it did the same thing so I took it right back to Infiniti and dropped it off. Today, they called me and it was finally doing what I said it was doing. Battery light, electrical cuts off and car just dies.

On [XXX] took the car into the Infiniti dealership for the routine oil change with potential issue with timing chain noise on cold startup. The dealership explained that the warranty will not cover drivetrain. After the oil change and driving the car back home, the “check engine” light came on. I contacted infiniti regarding the drivetrain problems that consumers are seeing with this engine and CVT. The chain noise I hear and the video I shared during our appointment. Many are reporting the timing chain noise, sludge and CVT problems, starting at 85k miles. I wasn’t happy with Infiniti response on life of a drivetrain. Why would anyone pay $60k on a car if you its design to run only 100k miles, I would have purchased a $20k car instead. In fact, I have a Acura RDX with 200k miles with no drivetrain issues. " Email send to infiniti consumer affairs. Hello Dennis, Per our conversation regarding the powertrain warranty and my concern regarding industrial standard of a premium luxury vehicle design and life. I don’t agree with Infiniti position that at 135K miles is a full life of an engine and the problems with powertrain ( P0017 and 17F1CVT) is a common issue. No other vehicle will have engine failure and transmission failure at 135K miles. I have other vehicle that drive beyond 250K miles ( (Nissan Maxima and Acura RDX at 200k miles), that had routine maintenance and repair, but never engine or transmission problem. I perform regular maintenance on all my cars since age 16. It’s a shame that a high end vehicle customer has to face these major repair. I believe the 2017 infinti Qx60 with CVT is a faulty design. It is a design related issue, which Infiniti should recall and correct. Many of the Infiniti consumer forums that I have read on this subject, suggest a similar performance and potential disaster at 90-120K miles. Vehicle began ticking in early 2023. Then received check engine light and trouble codes P0014 and P0017. Took to Infiniti dealership. Dealership claimed "sludge - you did not change oil regularly, " which I did - either at Valvoline, Wal-Mart, or by myself. Multiple online forums about Infiniti QX60 indicate all the dealership mechanics are saying the SAME thing to customers who are having this issue. Dealership claimed vehicle would need NEW engine priced at over $17,000!! They are doing this nationwide and globally. Infiniti KNOWS there is an engine defect leading to sludge and failed engine. My engine did fail in April 2024, but thankfully in my home driveway and not at high speeds - this would have been deadly had it happened on a major highway!

Air bag lamp is flashing - took it to dealer to diagnose and advise. They found that DTC B0020-13 for side airbag module left hand, per ESM first step is to check harness - verified harness isn't disconnected or obvious damage to harness per infiniti ESM SRS system diagnosis. Was advised no procedure for voltage check or continuity - infiniti asks to replace parts step by step. Was advised the following - recommend starting repairs with first replacing side airbag module left hand side. if that doesn't correct infiniti asks to replace airbag diagnostic sensor unit and if not all related harness.

The vehicle needs a completely new engine and I had made it known that I want to trade in the vehicle the very next day but was told that I need to wait until 30 days has past. I have reached out to the Loan institution and have documentation provided below of that INFINITI database in November of 2023 that this same vehicle needed a new engine. Both my children were hospitalized for breathing in these toxic vapors that were released from the tailpipe of the vehicle to which HGREG said they resolved and did not, as soon as vehicle started up the whole dealership came outside thinking someone's vehicle was on fire. Both my children are age 2 1/2 and 11 months old. Both were on breathing treatments due to the level of carbon monoxide released in vehicle while driving.

The passenger airbag warning light on my 2017 QX60 AWD began flashing non-stop, indicating that the airbag was not working properly. After bringing it to the Infiniti dealer, the stated that the ODB code B00A0 was showing up, which is for the Occupant Classification System (OCS) for the passenger airbag. In order to fix this, they need to replace both OCS seat sensors, as well as the OCS module, at a cost of $1,600. Until this repair is made, the passenger airbag will not work in a collision. This is the same issue that has plagued various Infiniti models in prior years, including the QX60 (2014-16) which were included in a recall (NHTSA# 16V-244). It is obvious that the issue also exists in the 2017 models, and the recall should be expanded to include this year as well.

Dear Infiniti Consumer Affairs, I am writing to express my concern about the recent transmission failure in my vehicle. This is the second time I have experienced a transmission failure in less than a year. The first transmission failure occurred on around May of 2023. The symptoms were as follows: The transmission gave out while on the highway, causing the vehicle to not start or drive. The transmission would not shift gears at 4000 RPMs unless I let off the gas and then gave it gas again. I took my vehicle to the dealership on sometime in May 2024, and they replaced the transmission after they tried to do a valve body that was recommended by the warranty department. Later, I was told that the failure was caused by a Faulty Transmission and was on recall notice. The second transmission failure occurred on 4/5/2024. The symptoms were as follows: The transmission would not shift gears at 4000 RPMs unless I let off the gas and then gave it gas again. The transmission would sometimes slip out of gear while driving. The transmission would make a grinding noise when shifting gears. My wife is taking the vehicle to the dealership on 04/08/2024, and they are currently diagnosing the problem. I am concerned that this is a recurring issue with my vehicle, and I am worried that it will continue to happen. I am also concerned about the safety of my vehicle, the safety of myself my wife and my kids as a transmission failure could cause both her and I to lose control while driving. I am requesting that you investigate this matter and take the necessary steps to resolve the issue. I would like to know what caused the transmission to fail, and I would like to know what steps can be taken to prevent it from happening again. I am also requesting that you provide me with a loaner vehicle while my vehicle is being repaired. my wife needs a vehicle for work, and she cannot afford to be without it. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. If you need to reach

My vehilce only has 31000 miles on it and the cooling fan went out, was not due to anything that I did driving wise. When I called Infiniti Warranty Divison in Franklin Tennessee they said they are aware of the complaints by other customers they said they issued a technical bullentin ITB17-048 but said there was no reason for a recall but they deemed it necassry to make a design change which fixed this problem and also required a module change also. They said they are not responsible for the problem, but if that is true then why did they make the design change. So any owners with old design will have an issue and will have to replace the unit. So I am glad that I was not on the road driving and would have been stuck in the heat trying to get the car repaired. There was no warnings about the issues and even though they may the dealers aware of the issue no notice was sent owners. Please review the number of complaints that were made online about this issue. Feel like they just took advantage of me because this was not a problem I created but was due to poor design. Also the cooling fans are no longer made of metal but of plastic, what is life expectancy of this part.
