IN CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, A FAULT IN THE ADAPTIVE FUEL CONTROL LOGIC CAN CAUSE SOME VEHICLES TO USE AIR/FUEL RATIOS DURING DECELERATION THAT ARE LEAN ENOUGH TO CAUSE ENGINE STALLING.

Risk

ENGINE STALLING COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ON AFFECTED VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES MAY HAVE A MISLOCATED SENSOR IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY. THIS CONDITION CAN PREVENT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT TONGUE FROM BEING INSERTED INTO THE BUCKLE.

IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, A SEAT OCCUPANT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY RESTRAINED INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 4, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

The contact's fiancé owns a 2004 Suzuki Verona. The contact stated that on multiple occasions after starting the vehicle, the engine was lagging and then revved inadvertently. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and coming to a stop at a red light or stop sign, the vehicle stalled and lost motive power on multiple occasions. The vehicle was able to be restarted. Additionally, the contact stated that the driver's seat belt failed to latch, and the front passenger’s side seat belt locked without movement. The check engine, air bag, seat belt, and oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the timing chain and lifters needed to be replaced. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the additional failures. The vehicle was then taken to another independent mechanic, where a diagnostic tool retrieved various failure codes for unknown sensors and failure with the engine. The contact made a local dealer aware of the failures and the dealer confirmed there was no related recalls for the VIN. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,500.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNDER LIQUIDATION AND WAS NOT ABLE TO HONOR THE RECALL REPAIR AT A LOCAL DEALER DUE TO A LACK OF DEALERS IN THE CONTACT'S STATE. THE CLOSEST DEALER TO THE CONTACT WAS OVER 120 MILES FROM HIS RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THAT FAR DUE TO THE POTENTIAL RISK OF A FIRE ERUPTING IN THE VEHICLE FROM THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT IF HE WANTED THE VEHICLE REPAIRED, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE RECALL REPAIR HIMSELF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE DEALERSHIP WOULD ONLY DO ONE MINOR REPAIR AND REFUSED TO HELP WITH ANYTHING ELSE, AS IT WAS SOLD AS IS. I HAD A MECHANIC HOOK IT UP AND FOUND 12 TRANSMISSION CODES!!!! I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OR 2/CHILDREN AND FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY EVERY TIME WE GET IN THIS CAR. I SO WISH I NEVER PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. BUT NOW ITS TOO LATE, I STILL OWE MONEY AND CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER VEHICLE. JUST WONDERING , I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY, BUT WERE THERE OR ARE THERE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM? JUST FRUSTRATED.

I TOLD 2 OR 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO, THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO DRIVE THAT FAR. I AM ON VA AND SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITIES ALSO FULL TIME CARE GIVER WITH HELP FROM THE STATE FOR MY 87 YEAR OLD MOTHER WHO SUFFERS FROM DEMENTIA. SUZUKI WILL NOT AUTHORIZE ANY OTHER DEALERSHIP OR REPAIR FACILITY TO REPLACE THE MODULE. I EITHER DRIVE TO PHOENIX, AZ OR TRY TO SUE THEM IF THE CAR CATCHES FIRE. BOUGHT THIS HORRIBLE CAR FOR $4,300 OF FINANCIAL AID MONEY WITH "AS IS, NO WARRANTY". OWNER SAID HE'D FIX THE PROBLEM BUT DID NOT EVEN THOUGH HE'S NOT OBLIGED TO, BUT HE WENT AGAINST HIS WORDS FOR FIXING THE CAR. HE SAID HIS MECHANIC WILL BUY THE NEW HOSE FOR THE ENGINE WHICH HE DID, BUT DID NOT PUT IN A FILTER AS SAID. THEN THEY DID NOT FIX THE OXYGEN SENSOR OR PUT ON NEW BRAKE PADS OR ROTORS AS SAID. THE BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE SEVERELY DAMAGE, AND THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS BUSTED. THE COOLANT & ANTI-FREEZE TUBE BURST, THE LEFT BLINKER BLINKS REALLY FAST, THE SMOG LIGHT BUTTON DOESN'T WORK, THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT IS OFF. IT IS JUST A TERRIBLE CAR I HAVE BOUGHT WRONGLY. *TR

SUDDEN, BARELY CONTROLLABLE SPEED CHANGES, SHIFTING OUT OF SEQUENCE AND HESITATION WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS VEHICLE IS A DEATH TRAP. I FEEL, AFTER ALL THESE TESTIMONIALS, THAT GM SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. AFTER ALL, THE DOOR TAG SAYS THAT IT'S A GM DAEWOO VEHICLE. JUST BECAUSE IT HAS A SUZUKI GRILLE, DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SURGING AND STALLING AT IDLE, UPON FILLING GAS TANK, IT WOULD STOP EVERY GALLON OF GAS PUT IN, FAULTY INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED. NEW SPARK PLUGS, AIR FILTER, CLOGGED THROTTLE BODY. CAR NOW STALLS/DIES AT IDLE WHEN FIRST STARTING UP, OUTSIDE TEMP GAUGE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY, CAR SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AT INTERSECTIONS, LOSES POWER WHEN MAKING TURNS, JERKS WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, FEELS LIKE BREAKS ARE BEING APPLIED DRIVING DOWNHILL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AIR CONDITIONER CAUSES RPMS TO GO BELOW 750 AND SURGE.
