ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY MAY SEPARATE FROM THE POWER STEERING PUMP DUE TO INADEQUATE WALL THICKNESS OF THE PULLEY.

Risk

THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE THE POWER STEERING PUMP DRIVE BELT TO DISCONNECT RESULTING IN HEAVY STEERING, AND CAN LEAD TO ENGINE OVERHEATING OR TO BATTERY DISCHARGE AND ENGINE STALL.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE IT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 1, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

This issue pertains to Safety Recall Notice No. XC - All 2004-2006 Suzuki Verona Vehicles - DRL System. Please note, the vehicle manufacturer provided documentation service was performed and the DRL Module (part 38860-84Z21-RX0) was replaced at mileage 49470. My wife and I are the original owner and the mileage is 61,000-62,000 currently. Approximately 1 month ago we experienced a slight odor like something electrical was burning. Recently, we noticed 1) That the Daytime Running Lights glow at first and gradually reach full intensity. 2) When switching from low headlights to high beams, all headlights go completely out for about 6 seconds before coming on gradually. Because Suzuki automobiles are no longer sold in the United States, the nearest support dealer is located 150 miles away. A local auto repair shop diagnosed and determined the DRL Module part mentioned in the original recall needs to be replaced. We contacted the support dealer, who, in turn, contacted Suzuki USA about the issue. Suzuki USA indicates they complied with the original recall and refuse to comply a second time. The original recall service report indicated a $122.60 cost for the part. Currently, Suzuki has the part and wants $294 for it, and they consider the repair to be a billable service. We have not been able to locate any alternate part sources and must rely on Suzuki for this item. I am [XXX] old and if I have to drive 150 miles (one way) to make the repair, it will involve the additional cost of an overnight hotel. My local repair guy can do the repair, which I'm willing to pay for if Suzuki can supply the part at $0 or at least for only their product cost. Otherwise, I do not feel safe driving the car with the possibility of having a fire (per the recall notice). Even if no fire occurs, it certainly is not safe without dependable headlights. SCOTT WAS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY; HOWEVER, AS HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE, HE NOTICED H WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN, AND THAT IT APPEARED THAT HIS BRAKES HAS GIVEN OUT. HE WAS ABLE TO SAFELY SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE AND PULL TO THE SHOULDER. HE OBSERVED A SMALL AMOUNT OF SMOKE EMANATING FROM HIS VEHICLE. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE AND OPENING THE HOOD, HE SAW MORE SMOKE AND FLAMES BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND FIREWALL. HE ADVISED HIS PASSENGER TO EXIT THE VEHICLE.

FREEDOM POWERSPORTS (1205 N FUTRALL DR, FAYETTEVILLE, AR) WAS CONTACTED; HOWEVER, THE REMEDY WAS NOT PERFORMED DUE TO THE NEAREST DEALER BEING 300 MILES AWAY. MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING FROM HOME WHEN HER 2005 SUZUKI VERONA JUST STARTED STALLING AND IT CUT OFF. IT CUT OFF WITHOUT NOTICE OR WARNING. SHE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART CAR AND WHEN DOING SO THE CAR DID NOT START. THEN SHE TRIED AGAIN IT STARTED AND DROVE IT BACK HOME WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. I THEN HAD THE SPARK PLUGS REPLACED AND FIXED THE CORRODED BATTERY TERMINAL. I DROVE THE CAR ON 10/29/2014 AT 2:00AM IN THE MORNING HEADED TO WORK AND IT WAS JUST HARD TO ACCELERATE THEN IT WOULD SURGE, THE RPMS WOULD GET REALLY HIGH AND THE CAR WOULD ACT AS THOUGH IT WANTS TO CUT OFF! THERE IS A RECALL ON THE LIGHTS OF THESE VEHICLES BUT THEY HAVEN'T HAD THEM SENT OR REQUESTED TO BE FIXED. I HAVE READ WHERE THERE IS NO FIXING TO THESE CARS AND THAT US OWNERS OF THESE CARS ARE ALL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND SOME HAVE HAD FATALITIES. TO GM AND OTHER MANUFACTURERS OF THESE CARS, YOU KNOW THESE CARS NEED TO BE RECALLED AND GIVEN THE FULL VALUE OF THE CAR WHEN PURCHASED OR HALF OF IT AND AS THE FAMILY OF FATALITIES, THERE NEEDS TO BE THE FULL VALUE OF PURCHASE AND FUNERAL BURIAL EXPENSES. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THOSE FAMILIES WHO LOST LOVE ONES AND TO THOSE WHO ARE SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR AND CAN'T REALLY AFFORD ANOTHER, I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST DRIVING IT IF YOU CAN IF YOU MUST BE CAREFUL BECAUSE IT CAN CUTOFF WITHOUT WARNING OR NOTICE AND CAUSE INJURY. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE 2005 VERONA IN APRIL 2012, FROM A LOCAL USED CAR DEALERSHIP, WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITHIN A DAY OR TWO, THE AIRBAG AND TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHTS ALSO CAME ON. THE DEALER KEPT TELLING US THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG TO CAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. ONE MECHANIC FINALLY SAID IT WAS JUST THE GAS CAP NOT BEING TIGHT ENOUGH. THIS DEALER SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE WHY THE AIRBAG AND TIRE PRESSURE LIGHTS WERE ON. THE CAR BEGAN HESITATING WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND WOULD ALMOST STALL. THIS WOULD HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING. AT TIMES, IT WOULD NOT EVEN START. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF THIS, I TOOK IT TO A SUZUKI DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP. THE CAR DIDN'T EVEN HAVE 50,000 MILES ON IT YET. AT 75,000 MILES I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SUZUKI DEALER FOR SERVICE TO SEE IF THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE REASON FOR THE WARNING LIGHTS. THEY SAID THE SENSORS WERE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION STARTING TO GO BAD AND THE REAR BRAKES WERE MALFUNCTIONING. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT IT WOULD REQUIRE $8400 IN PARTS ALONE TO TRY TO REPAIR THE CAR. HE SAID THE CAR WAS NOT WORTH IT AND TOLD ME IT WOULD BE BETTER TO SPEND THE MONEY ON ANOTHER CAR. HE SAID THAT THIS MODEL IS KNOWN FOR ALL KINDS OF MECHANICAL PROBLEMS AND THEY ARE NOT USUALLY WORTH FIXING. I BELIEVE THAT THE SUZUKI VERONA IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY THE FACTORY WHEN THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS STARTED TO APPEAR. I HAVE GONE ON-LINE AND READ NUMEROUS SIMILAR ACCOUNTS FROM OTHER OWNERS. THEY ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR, AS AM I, NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL STALL AGAIN OR BREAK DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. I PURCHASED THE 2004 SUZUKI VERONA LAST YEAR FROM A THIRD PARTY. THE ENGINE STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. IT COMPLETELY STOPS. LAST YEAR IT STOPPED COMPLETELY AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. LUCKILY NO CARS WERE BEHIND ME. I HAD TO CALL THE TOW TRUCK AND FIX IT. THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE FUEL INJECTION. I WENT ONLINE AND CHECKED FOR RECALL. THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THE ENGINE STALL BUT ONLY FOR 2004. THE CORPORATE OFFICE INFORMED ME THAT SINCE IT WAS A 2005 YEAR, THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I SPENT ALMOST $700 AND NOW THE PROBLEM STARTED ARISING AGAIN LAST SATURDAY. THE ENGINE ALMOST STALLED. I CALLED THE CORPORATE OFFICE AGAIN AND AFTER GIVING MY VIN # THEY SAID THAT NO RECALL HAVE BEEN LISTED WITH THAT VIN NUMBER. THEY EVEN SAID THAT HERE WERE NO OTHER RECALL FOR THAT YEAR AND MAKE WHICH I KNOW IS NOT TRUE. I CALLED THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY PEOPLE AND THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE 2 RECALL FOR THAT YEAR AND MAKE BUT THE CORPORATE OFFICE TELLS ME THAT THERE IS NONE. WHEN PUTTING VEHICLE INTO REVERSE I HEAR A LOUD "CLUNK" AND THE R ON THE DASHBOARD IS ALL JUMBLED. WHEN I PUT IT INTO D THERE ALSO IS A LOUD "CLINK". THE CAR ACCELERATES REAL SLOW/HARD. DOES NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AND THE CODE THAT COMES UP IS P0705 - FAILED TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR. HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYONE THAT WILL/CAN REPLACE IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING THE PART. CAN SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME GUIDANCE ON THIS. VERY FRUSTRATED AS THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MONTHS. REALLY TIRED OF SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WAITING FOR THE THING TO RESET OR FINALLY CORRECT ITSELF. *JS

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CRADLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE CRADLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
